Ever since I was in graduate school, I’ve known that Edouard Vuillard (1868-1940) was a member of Les Nabis (Hebrew and Arabic for “prophets”), that group of avant-garde painters in the 1890s who took as their point of departure the “synthetism” of Paul Gauguin. I also knew that (more…)
