Report from the Front

Art criticism, sometimes with context, occasional politics. Published in hard copy 2-4 times a year. New shows: "events;" hard copy rates & how to support the online edition: "works."

I am happy to report that John Link and Darby Bannard have established a new blog called artcrit.org This is not to be confused with Newcrit, the more formal website that Link & Bannard have had posted for some time. artcrit.org is intended to function much as artblog.net, the blog created by Frankin Einspruch, used to function, in the days when comments appeared immediately on it and the result was a free-ranging conversation comparable to a night at the old Cedar Bar, though conducted over a far larger geographic area.

The old artblog.net, so I have been told, ran into technological difficulties which forced Einspruch to close it down and then re-open it in its present form, where comments only appear after he has had a chance to vet them. Link & Bannard believe they have licked the problems that afflicted the earlier Einspruch blog, thanks to Disqus, a relatively new (estab. 2007) service that will enable readers to post their comments immediately & without similar technological problems (though still monitored by Link & Bannard to exclude obscenities, hate mail, and other material too offensive to print).

I hope my readers will check out both artcrit.org and artblog.net. As I see it, each has its virtues (and shortcomings).
